MISSION  PAINTERS  ART  GROUP
"A Little Goes a Long Way" Challenge

The Mission Painters, a small group of artists, have always had generous community support for their annual art show. We wanted to give back! This year we are making a $200 donation to the Central Okanagan Food Bank. We at Mission Painters challenge all other small organizations and groups to join us in sponsoring the Central Okanagan Food Bank.

A small contribution will make a big difference. Here's how:
* The Central Okanagan Food Bank can make every $5s donated provide up to $15 worth of food
* The Central Okanagan Food Bank has seen a 25% increase in visits since the beginning of 2022
* The Central Okanagan Food Bank supports both Kelowna and West Kelowna communities

Our goal is to have 500 small groups or organizations make a contribution in the name of #A Little Goes A Long Way Challenge. Are you with a few people who meet for lunch, to play cards, for book club, to do yoga, to paint or work together? Step up and make a contribution. You know you want to. You know you should. So just do it! 'Tis the season to be giving. A little goes a long way!

Make your donation directly to the Central Okanagan Food Bank at www.cofoodbank.com and write "A little goes a long way" in the dedication box. Or, follow this link to get directly to the A Little Goes a Long Way Challenge at https://give-can.keela.co\a-little-goes-a-long-way
Let's make this happen!

Michelle Droettboom initiated a "Share the Sunshine" project with local art groups to bring some sunshine to people who work in ICU and on the Covid ward at Kelowna General Hospital. 400 art panels were produced with grateful and uplifting messages that will be displayed in the hospital so workers can select their own piece of original art.
The presentation of the art was on display on Oct. 28th at the Okanagan Mission Activity Centre and covered by local media.

The Mission Painters Art Group is part of Okanagan Mission Centre Society and works out the the Okanagan Mission Activity Centre at the back of Sarson's Beach.

The building is at risk of being demolished as early as 2025. A committee has been formed to bring awareness of this issue and garner support for it to remain.

Although seniors uses this centre during the weekdays it is available for rental from the City in the evenings and on weekends. It is a beautiful location on the lake and once demolished would not be replaced.

Mission Painters Art by the Lake is an annual show and sale.
2019's art show and sale was a great success. Over 800 visitors toured the show and many pieces of art were sold. The weather was perfect and people could talk with the artists on site. Because of the Covid-19 virus, we have had to forego the event in 2020 and have had to postpone this year's event. The new date for the show and sale is now tentatively scheduled for July 9, 10, 2022.

The Mission Painters' Art Group was established in 1978. As a self directed group, ages 50 plus, we enjoy painting together on a weekly basis.  The Mission Painters' Group was created as part of the seniors’ recreational program, through the Service Delivery Agreement between the City of Kelowna and the Okanagan Mission Seniors Society. We host an annual art show and sale, called "Art by the Lake" in early July. Our group is diverse, working in many mediums and styles. While we are not a teaching group, we do seek critiquing of our work with fellow artists. This offers an opportunity for learning and improving in a relaxed and supportive environment. Due to space constraints, we have a limited membership. Painters wishing to join our group may inquire about the Drop-in Program by sending an email to vnewth@gmail.com .
